Ricky Rubio and Anthony Tolliver visit Children's Hospital for a Reading Timeout
The Minnesota Timberwolves make it a top priority to serve within their community, and on Thursday the Wolves got an opportunity to spread cheer to some of their younger fans.
As part of The FastBreak Foundation’s WolvesCare month, presented by C.H. Robinson Worldwide and Hennepin County Medical Center the Foundation, guard Ricky Rubio and forward Anthony Tolliver helped host Reading Time-Out at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Children currently staying at the hospital were able to put their painful situation aside and spend some time with their favorite Wolves players, which brought smiles all around.
“Seeing the kids smile and laugh and just kind of forget about what is going on in their lives right now is really great to see,” Tolliver said. “All these kids are having some problems right now, so just being able to come here and take their minds off it for awhile, if it’s only an hour, 15 minutes or even if it’s two minutes, it’s better than nothing. It’s definitely something me and Ricky had a lot of fun doing and hopefully we can do it more.”

Ricky Rubio urges people to send an SMS to combat child sex tourism
Celebrities from music, film and television urge micro donations on the blog www.smscontralapederastia.org
–
30/11/2011.- Global Humanitaria presents the campaign 1 million SMS against paedophilia in order to raise awareness about the reality of child sexual exploitation and to raise funds to combat paedophilia in countries receiving what is known as sexual tourism.
Sexual tourism is one of the manifestations of child sexual explotation, a phenomenon which encompasses various infringements of the rights of children. Although we do not have exact data, it is estimated that around 1.8 million children are affected by trafficking for sexual purposes, recruitment or supply for prostitution, the production of pornography or pornographic acts, among other realities.
The campaign is supported by actors such as Fernando Tejero, Antonio Zabalburu and María Castro, presenters such as Christian Gálvez and Paz Padilla, singers such as Chenoa, Malú, and Álex Ubago, and sportspeople such as Ricky Rubio, among many others, who have collaborated through different spots or with their presence and messages of support on the campaign blog at www.smscontralapederastia.org
The campaign aims to promote the involvement of individuals and the tourism sector to achieve the goals of this campaign through the collection of micro donations via SMS sent to 28030. The funds obtained in this campaign will finance research into the activities of paedophiles and their trials in countries receiving what is known as sexual tourism. It will also support the legal defence of their victims as well as their social reintegration.
The figures speak for themselves: the World Tourism Organization has calculated that 20% of the 700 million journeys taking place each year in the world are principally motivated by sex. Of these, it is estimated that 3% involved sex with minors.
The campaign '1 million SMS against paedophilia' aims to raise awareness on the necessary collective involvement to protect children from child sexual exploitation. The reason is that sexual aggressors simply ignore borders, committing crimes in their countries of origin and also in those where justice does not have the means to be able to combat them.
It should be remembered, on this point, that the Council of Europe has estimated that one in every 5 European children has suffered some kind of sexual violence.
About Project Protect
Protect is a project of international cooperation, promoted by the Global Humanitaria Association, which pursues and reports commercial sexual explotation of children and adolescents in places where poverty leads to the greatest concentration of sexual crimes. Protect takes on the legal defence of the victims of these crimes and and seeks their recovery and social reintegration.
Since 2003, this Project has investigated more than 300 cases of alleged paedophiles in Cambodia and Colombia and has achieved sentences against more than 120 aggressors from 26 different nationalities. It has also attended to more than 400 victims of sexual crimes.
Project Protect focuses specifically on child sexual exploitation against children and adolescents living on the streets or found in precarious livelihoods. The Project also focuses on exploitation by foreigners in countries receiving sex tourism involving children and adolescents.
